Cancun, Senator Wallin's outrageous op-ed

Senator Pamela Wallin has written a really misleading op-ed for the Guelph Mercury (http://news.guelphmercury.com/Opinions/EditorialOpinion/article/732827)

In defence of undemocratically killing Bill C-311, she writes:

"By 2004, Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions had already reached 758 million tonnes a year, 26 per cent above the 1990 level of 599 million tonnes set as the baseline in the bill. This year, Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions reached 828 million tonnes. Why? Because the Canadian population, the Canadian economy, Canadian industry are all growing and we want it that way."

She also makes the statement that:

"Canada has been the only country in the world to remove dirty coal from electricity generation, while in the United States more than half of electricity is generated by some 650 coal-powered plants – collectively the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions in the world."

I found the following quote (http://climateprogress.org/2010/06/25/energy-and-global-warming-news-for...) regarding Canada and "dirty coal":

"Scrubbing Canada clean of dirty coal-powered electricity generation was Environment Minister Jim Prentice’s announced objective yesterday — all part of the Conservative government’s attempt to turn Canada into a 'clean energy superpower.' To that end, Ottawa is going to use the blunt instrument of regulation. In early 2011, Environment Canada said it will issue directives to force reductions in greenhouse gas emissions from electricity generation."
